SOLEMNITY OF ST. PETER AND PAUL IN AVONDALE HEIGHTS 2010
The Solemnity of St. Peter and Paul was celebrated yesterday, at St. Martin De Porres parish in Avondale Heights. The mass was celebrated by Fr. Tony Kerin Parish Priest and assisted by Francis Dalton and Luigi Buccarelli the Master of Ceremonies. Retired Fr. Ron Merrick who celebrated 60 years as a priest was also present. The ceremony started with the bells of the Nadur Church playing on CD and then the Antifona Petrus Apostolus also on CD before the entrance hymn. The procession in the church was led by Les Tarczon carring the Vatican flag followed by Cav. Saverio Greto with the Mace. The mass was said in Italian and English because its normally the Italian mass.
After the Holy Communion the investiture of the new Knights and Dames in the Confraternity took place. Fr. Tony Kerin read the prayer and blessed the new members. After the mass a procession took place around the church and finished in the parish hall, were the Maltese United Brass Band played some popular marches including the Letter A. A concert took place after the band. Coffee and cakes were available to everyone.
It was a very colourful and solemn celebration and it was nice to see the Parish Priest and his assistants taking part in the procession something that doesn't happen elsewhere.
The new Knights and Dames who were invested this yesterday are Maria Andronaco, Teresa Dimauro, Teresa Mammone, Domenica Sabatini, Mario Sabatini, Ante Grasic, Catherine Portelli, Rosa Tornese and Emilio Tornese.
The side altar that you see in the photos is portable and belongs to the Confraternity.

This year two Dames from the Sovereign Order of Santa Maria of Jerusalem will be invested in the Confraternity of Knights and Dames of St. Peter and St. Paul. The investiture will take place during the Solemn Mass in honour of the the two great apostles, on Sunday, 4 July, at St. Martin De Porres Parish Church, in Avondale Heights, in Melbourne.
