To mark the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Comino Tower, the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana made an official visit to the island.
The Minister visited Comino Tower where Din l-Art Helwa had organised a weekend programme of events including living history displays and reenactments.
Dr Caruana congratulated and thanked the volunteers at the tower for their work and reiterated the full support of the Ministry for Gozo in aid of the restoration and maintenance of historic sites. She said that the Ministry has recently provided funding for new lights at the tower.
It was also an opportunity for the Minister to visit residents of Comino, which is also part of Gozo. The Minister said that they raised the questions with her of accessibility to the island and on the island, as well as the need for basic infrastructure to be able to fulfill their essential needs, while keeping in mind the sensitivity of the island.
Minister Justyne Caruana assured them that the Ministry had already prepared a plan which is currently being discussed with the authorities, and as a first step it has submitted an application to carry out work on the road and part of the pier, which has been damaged over the years and becoming dangerous. Once the competent authority has giving their approval, work can be done, added the Minister.
